Private use only
The SafetyTool is intended exclusively for private use. It does not cover commercial activities. Schools, centers, instructors and tour operators need commercial cover. You will find it on our pages for watersport schools and instructors.
Who the cover is for
Windsurfers and SUP riders, kiteboarders and snowkiters, dinghy and catamaran sailors, wave riders and everyone out on the water with a kayak, canoe or rowing boat. Insured are your own and hired sports equipment as well as motor and sailing boats hired for a fee, within the usual scope of leisure use.
What the cover includes
The SafetyTool combines liability cover for the use of this equipment, including skipper's liability, with own damage cover for your own and for hired equipment. Cover applies worldwide and the term is one year.
The exact sums insured, excesses and limits are set out in the VDWS insurance information. Please read it before you take out the policy; together with the conditions it is the binding document.
Territory and term
The term is one year and extends by a further year each time unless notice is given three months before it ends. Cover starts either at the earliest possible date or on a date of your choosing between 14 and 90 days ahead. For insured people with Swiss citizenship the liability cover does not apply inside Switzerland because of the statutory provisions there.
Who is responsible for what
Taking out the policy, changes and cancellation all run online through your personal Checkpoint area at the VDWS. The risk carrier is AXA Versicherung AG, Cologne. We handle the broking and the claims. You report a claim online through our VDWS claim form.
